Dr. Francis R. Johns, the founder of Artisan Plastic Surgery, is Board Certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and is a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons. His unique and extensive education and training brings a special perspective to the discipline and art of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery.
Deciding to undergo any procedure requires careful consideration. Dr. Johns believes in his patients making an informed, educated decision, and will take the time to answer any questions you may have in a respectful, patient manner. His friendly nature ,combined with his vast experience, will immediately make you feel relaxed and comfortable.
Below is some general information on some of the many procedures in which Dr. Johns is experienced, and does not include specific surgical techniques. Keep in mind every patient has unique needs and concerns regarding their personal appearance, and likewise, their proposed surgical or procedural solutions will be unique and individualized. At your initial consultation, it is important that you communicate your aesthetic goals with Dr. Johns candidly and honestly in order to establish reasonable expectations, ensuring a successful and positive experience. Dr. Johns will discuss with you the various options available to you, the details of the procedural techniques he feels are best suited for your aesthetic needs, and the associated recovery times of each procedure.

Francis R. Johns, MD, FACS
Dr. Francis R. Johns has been Board Certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and is a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons. His exceptional education and training affords him a unique perspective to the art and science of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery. Having completed studies in both dentistry and medicine, as well as training in both Maxillofacial Surgery and Plastic Surgery, Dr. Johns offers an educational background that fewer than fifty plastic surgeons in the United States can claim.
Education And Training
Dr. Francis R. Johns graduated Summa Cum Laude from the University of Pittsburgh with a BS degree in Pre-Medicine, and was inducted into the Golden Key Honor Society. He went on to graduate Valedictorian of his class as he earned his D.M.D. degree from the University of Pittsburgh School of Dental Medicine, where he was inducted into the selective Omicron Kappa Upsilon Honorary Society. Dr. Johns then received his M.D. degree from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, where he graduated with honors and was inducted into the prestigious Alpha Omega Alpha Honorary Society.
Dr. Johns completed his residency in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, where he received first place in the Straumann Resident Research National Competition for two consecutive years. From there, Dr. Johns completed his Plastic Surgery residency training at the renowned University of Virginia Medical Center, where he received first place in the Virginia American College of Surgeons Research Competition for his work in breast reconstruction. He also has more than 20 publications to his credit.
Dr. Johns’ extensive education and training has supplied him with a thorough and comprehensive understanding of the skeletal framework and the soft tissues. These distinguishing qualifications enable him to more thoroughly evaluate each patient in order to create individualized solutions to their aesthetic concerns. Dr. Johns is dedicated to pursuing education in the latest surgical techniques and treatments in order to provide his patients with the safest, and most effective aesthetic treatments. His exceptional surgical skills and artistic vision produce beautiful and natural looking results, giving each patient a renewed self-confidence and vitality.
